Thu, 28 Oct 2004 Tugs are special ships designed for bulk movement at fleet speeds. Each tug purchased comes with two free military cargo pods. A tug may "tug" up to its full capacity in pods (or bases) at its full speed. It may tug an FRD at -2 to its speed, or another ship at -1 to its speed. A space monster is counted as a ship for this purpose unless specified by the GM. A tug may upgrade any mobile or permanent base on its own. See Base Construction in the rules for more details. Certain races do not have a tug per se. Instead, they have one or more "freight" variants. These variants may be used as tugs with a few restrictions-- 1. When built, each ship comes with one standard load of cargo packs/pallets. 2. In order to tow an FRD or upgrade a base, they must operate in pairs. 3. Other restrictions may be dependent on the specific design. - Light Tactical Transports - Rules for LTTs will be sent out after I get a chance to look the SSDs over. Their rules may be identical to those for tugs, or they may be modified slightly. - Salvage Tugs - Salvage Tugs are capable of towing a ship or FRD in pairs. A ship under tow by salvage tugs moves at a speed of 5; an FRD moves at a speed of 4. They are also capable of upgrading a Mobile Base to a Middle Years BS (or a YBS if desired) while partnered with a Repair Freighter. http://www.mit.edu/~locutus/SFB/SSDs/Generic/SalvageTug.pdf - Free Salvors - Free Salvors may scrap a ship in place at a rate of 10EP per impulse. The resulting EP is stored in the salvor's Cargo boxes, or Cargo boxes of freighters assisting with the salvage. All normal salvage rules apply.
