Hydran Fleet Destroys Crystalline Entity

Durham - Y76.1.12 - The 2nd Royal Defense Fleet destroyed the Chrystalline Entity that had fled from the assault around the Hel'nat'i White Dwarf a few weeks ago. The assault force had remained in close pursuit since the first battle.

The vessel was intercepted by a squadron of frigates which engaged the much larger vessel until the pursuit force arrived. The battle took place in close proximity to the Durham system on the Klingon border. This was the last opportunity to stop the creature before it crossed the neutral zone and entered Klingon space.

"This was our problem and it would have been inappropriate to wipe our hands of it when we had the ability to do something," stated Admiral Gej'lop-no Loktef'lek, a representative of the Ministry of Defense. "We know that much of the Klingon fleet is tied up dealing with pirates."

The HMS Sapphire suffered heavy damage and the HMS Director and HMS Amethyst suffered light to moderate damage during the battle. Casualties on the Sapphire and Amethyst are reported to be heavy.

When asked if the losses were justified in protecting a neighbor who had been an enemy only 10 years previously, Admiral Loktef'lek replied that "There are civilian colonies on the other side of the border, and they may not have been able to divert forces quickly enough. We have no interest in watching this creature ravage defenseless civilians."
